How-To Organize Your Paper Files - Using RootsMagic 4
Page 3 of 30

After tracing family lines back several generations, we usually find many common surnames on the family tree that can take an enormous amount of time to file papers alphabetically. Fortunately the RootsMagic 4 program can quickly search names and make lists that make our online work easy, but a researcher's task is to also organize and maintain supportive documents that link each individual with other relatives in the file.

Storing direct, indirect, original, derivative, and circumstantial documents is easy to do when these papers are filed according to a marriage unit. In marriage units an individual is linked to his spouse, parents, siblings, or children as relatives. Relationships are one of the core identifying elements that separate one person from another.
